This is a great subject because of all the new changes to the design and approach to doing laundry. Well, there is not much new with the old style top load washer we are all familiar with. However, the new front load washers are a different story. Everybody wants to know whether or not they should they buy them. Well, let’s run the pros and cons:
The Cons:
First, front load washers are more expensive than top loaders. How much more expensive? Well, almost twice as expensive, depending on the model. Second, they are far more complex. There are far more electronics, computer driven motors, internal monitoring systems, and so on. There is no need to bore you with all of the details, but you get the idea. Remember, we are just washing cloths; we have already put a man on the moon, so why go there.
The Pros:
First, front load washers use far less water. Okay, that is cool, but that will not make up for the cost. Second, front load washers use less electricity. This is interesting part, it is not that the washer is so much more efficient electrically speaking, it is the fact that front load washers spin much faster and the cloths are almost dry before they go into the dryer. Now the dryer does not have to run as long and that is were you save big!!!
F.Y.I.: The average dryer pulls about 6,500 watts of power when heating. That’s a lot. Just for comparison sake, the average hot water heater pulls from 2,000 to 4,500 watts of electricity. That is far less electricity than the dryer. Fortunately, the dryer does not need to run as long as the hot water heater, and even less if you have a front load washer.
Third, a top load washer, with its agitator impacting your cloths back and forth, will wear out your cloths faster than a front load washer does. Fourth, if you do a lot of laundry and you have back to back loads to wash, you are always waiting on the dryer. Well, because the front loader spins so much faster your cloths will dry faster, and that is a lot less frustrating.
Well, we hope this has been helpful to you.
